How to upload your own 3D Models

Learn how to upload 3D models into the Iventis Planner to use in your plans.

Sometimes, the 3D model you need might not be available in the 3D model library or exist as a template within the predefined layer categories.  Alternatively, it might be confidential, and only you want to be able to access and view it.

Before you begin, you’ll need to purchase and download your 3D model from a reputable site or know its location on your computer, and ensure you have a thumbnail image for it.  Also, if you’re aware of the model’s dimensions, it would be helpful to have that information to hand.

Please note:

  • Your 3D model must be under 3MB in size and saved in a .glb format
  • The thumbnail image of the 3D model should be in a .jpg or .png format

Here’s how to upload your own 3D model:

Step 1:
With a plan open, click the (+) New layer button to initiate a new layer.

Step 2:
Select Create custom Layer on the right-hand side of the layer templates.

Step 3:
Enter a suitable name for your layer, which can be the name of your model. Input the name into the Name of layer field and proceed by selecting Next.

Step 4:
From the Type of Layer drop-down menu, choose Model and then click Next.

You also have the option to create a Line of 3D models if you want to create a series of objects such as barriers or chairs. Click here to learn how to upload a line of 3D models. Top of Form

Step 5:
The settings panel for your new layer opens.  Navigate to the Model section. Click on the Type field and either type in your model’s type in the search bar or browse through the thumbnail images to find it. Once located, select the model type image and click the (+) button.

Step 6:
The Upload a 3D model panel displays. Here, you provide a name for your model then choose Select file on the right-hand side of the Select model field. Locate your 3D model and hit Upload.

Follow the same process to upload your thumbnail.

Step 7:
If you know the dimensions of your 3D model, input the length (y), width (x), and height (z) directly into the dimension boxes or use the + and options.  This enables you to dynamically change the model size once in your plans. Once entered, click Confirm.

Step 8:
Confirm your selection by clicking Confirm on the Select 3D Model panel. Your model will now be visible in the Layer settings panel

Step 9: (Optional)
To associate specific data with your 3D model, select (+) Add attribute.  Choose from predefined attributes such as cost, start date, or What3words location, or create your own custom attribute like a tick box, list or text input box.

Step 9:
If you’re not adding attributes, or once you’ve finished adding them, click Save. Your 3D model will automatically be added to your plan.  To start drawing, ensure your new layer is highlighted on the left-hand side.
